Irene Barrineau Obituary

Irene Thompson Barrineau Charleston - Irene Thompson Barrineau, 76, of Charleston, SC, and wife of the late Charles H. Barrineau, III, entered into eternal rest Friday, February 5, 2021. A private service will be held at the graveside in the Carolina Memorial Park. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC 29414. Irene was born August 3, 1944 in Charleston, SC, a daughter of the late Oscar Lee "O.L." Thompson and Margaret Rodgers Thompson. She graduated from Hanahan High School and later retired from the Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE). Irene was an active member of John Wesley United Methodist Church. She was an energetic volunteer and enjoyed playing bridge and pickleball. She always enjoyed time with her family on Lake Moultrie. She will be remembered as a gracious, kind, and loving friend. She is survived by her daughters, Susan (David) Alexander and Christine (Ron) Inabinett; her grandchildren, Carter (CJ), Katie, Audrey, and Maria; her sisters Elaine (Mike) Strong and Joyce (Skip) Lovejoy; her brother, O.L. (Toni) Thompson, III; her brother-in-law, Doug (Jo) Gressette; her sister-in-law, Kay Simms, and several nieces, nephews, along with other family members and friends. Besides her husband of 57 years and her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Anne Smith and Mary Gressette. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Hwy, Charleston, SC 29407 or Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research, https://virtualtrials.org/Donate.cfm. I am so very sorry to hear of Irene's passing. I knew her through our years together with Professional Secretaries International and when our daughters attended Citadel Square Baptist School in the 1960's. She had a sweet and gracious gracious spirit and was an example to all of kindness and friendship.
