Hugh Wilson Obituary

WILSON, Hugh Hugh Walter Wilson, 91, of Summerville, SC, widower of Annie L. Wilson died Monday, November 20, 2006. A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina Chapel, Wednesday afternoon, November 22, 2006 at two o'clock. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends after services at The Presbyterian Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Summerville Presbyterian Church, 407 S. Laurel Street, Summerville, SC 29483. Hugh W. Wilson was born March 3, 1915 in Smith Grove, KY. He was the son of Walter Wilson and Bessie Jones Wilson. He graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1934 and Bowling Green Business University in 1936. He served in the US Army during World War II achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant. In 1950, he moved to Summerville, SC as Chief Accountant of the CaroMiss Lumber Company. In 1953 he founded Summerville Underwriters and operated it until his retirement. He was a 50 year member of the Lions Club of Summerville, serving as a member of the board of directors and as President. He was a board member of the Summerville Chamber of Commerce, the South Carolina State Chamber of Commerce, and Summerville Industries. Mr. Wilson was a lifelong Presbyterian and a member of the Summerville Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, and his wife of 62 years, Annie L. Wilson. He is survived by two sons, Hugh W. Wilson, Jr. and Donald A. Wilson; three grandchildren, Stephanie Wilson-Hartzog of Charleston, SC, Catherine E. Kelly of Montgomery, AL, and Jeremy Wilson of GA and three nephews. Arrangements by PARKS FUNERAL HOME, 130 West 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483.
