I had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Easterby for only a few months, but his kindness and caring ways meant a lot to me. When my husband had a stroke last July and I was in need of a hospital bed, he gladly offered me one free of charge. He had a heart of gold. I am sure he will be missed by everyone who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.

I had the privilege of working with Hugh Easterby in the telephone industry. We didn't work together, but his job and mine overlapped. On a cold and rainy winter night Hugh taught me a lesson in patience and in controlling anger, and he taught it by being patient when I was not, and by not becoming angry when I had vented my anger to him. It was a beautiful lesson, taught in the most beautiful way--not in words, but by example.
I have thought of Hugh and that lesson many, many times over the years, and remain grateful for who and what he was. He truly touched many people, of whom I was only one. And he did it by simply being Hugh Easterby.

Dear Mel and family,
The years I lived across the fence from your parents were wonderful years. They were both special people. Your dad had a heart of gold. He will truly be missed. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
