Howard Porter Obituary

Howard Reid Porter, Sr. ALLENDALE, SC - Mr. Howard Reid Porter, Sr. of Allendale, died Saturday, in the University Hospital in Augusta. He was born March 21, 1930 in Abbeville County, son of the late Charlie C. Porter and Lunette Blanchett Porter. He was the founder and President of R & R Motor Company, Inc., and was formerly an Eagle Scout, a South Carolina State Trooper, Plant Manager of J.P. Stevens, Inc., and was a Command First Sergeant with the South Carolina National Guard. He enjoyed many years of coaching Dixie Youth baseball, and was a former President of the Allendale Jaycee's and had been very active with projects in the community. He was a member of Swallow Savannah United Methodist Church where he held various positions. Surviving are: His wife, JoAnn Deer Porter of the home: Sons: Howard Reid Porter, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Fairfax and Charles David Porter (Lori) of Allendale; Sister: Katherine P Henry of Abbeville, SC. He deeply loved his grandchildren who affectionately called him "Daddy Reid": Porter Smith, JoAnna Still, Elli Porter and Cameron Porter; Mr. Porter was predeceased by: His daughter, Pamela Porter Smith and a Brother, J.C. Porter. Services will be held Wednesday, 11 AM in the Swallow Savannah United Methodist Church, 412 Walnut Street West, in Allendale, SC with Rev. George Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in the Swallow Savannah Cemetery in Allendale directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home of Hampton. Visitation will start at 10 AM on Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
