Howard Henry Moorer, Jr. Charleston - Howard Henry Moorer, Jr., 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of the late Barbara Jean Pearson Moorer, entered into eternal rest Thursday, December 29, 2022. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 9, 2023 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. Interment, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel. Howard Moorer, Jr. was born April 1, 1933 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Howard Henry Moorer and the late Mildred Stone Moorer. He graduated from St. Andrews High School as an honor student, football player and participant in school musicals including a role as the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz. In 1955, he graduated from The Citadel with a degree in chemistry and received the Wade Hampton saber for his grades in military science. He married his high school sweetheart Barbara Pearson, and they moved to Tennessee, where he earned a Master's in chemistry from the University of Tennessee. Returning to Charleston, he worked in research and development for Westvaco and was an active member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, where he once taught youth Sunday School and sang in the choir. He also enjoyed playing golf and painting with watercolors. He will be greatly missed by his family: daughter: Kim McDermott, her husban, Pat McDermott, grandson, Chris McDermott, his wife, Melanie, great-grandchildren, Logan McDermott and Madelyn McDermott; his daughter, Teri Moorer Howard, her husband, David Tedder, grandsons, Kyle Howard and Ryan Howard and Ryan's wife, Tiffany, great- grandchild, Evie Rose, and his brother-in-law, LeRoy Pearson and niece, Jamie Pearson Hankins. He was predeceased by wife, Barbara and grandson, Jordan McDermott.
