Horace "Bubba" Berthney Thomas was born September 27,1951, in Charleston, SC. On December 6, 2025 he passed surrounded by his family at the age of 74.
His childhood was an adventure growing up on Folly Beach, where he spent time at the Folly Peir in the arcade or surfing the waves. Many years on the football field led to him winning a state championship for the James Island Rams, as well as a state champion wrestler. Meeting his wife to be Chris A. Holmes on Folly in 1968. He attended Baptist College building a mathematical foundation that carried him through life. He raised three exceptional children while working for Charleston Wrecking Company, Otis Elevator, then as a Government Contractor in Scotland and eventually running his own contracting company where he worked on many historic and local homes all over Charleston.
He was proceeded by his parents Horace B. Thomas and Patricia Walker. He was survived by his wife Chris H. Thomas, his children Jennifer G. Thomas, Christopher B. Thomas and his wife Crystal S. Thomas, and Kiefer M. Thomas and his wife Haleigh M. Thomas. His beloved grandchildren; Antionette L. Thomas-Paule, Lucian A. Thomas-Paule, Bailee Kittle, Merrick B. Thomas, Stella J. Thomas, Lucy A. Thomas, Evangeline L. Murphy and Roland J. Thomas. And by his siblings Ricky Thomas, John Thomas and Patricia Williams and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a gathering at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Rd. James Island, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday December 17, 2025. Followed by a reception at 12:30, 1697 East Ashley Ave. Folly Beach.

Bubba was like my brother as we along with others grew-up together on Folly. He will be missed tho always thought of. My prayers are with the family.
