Horace Davis Obituary

Horace Randle Davis, Sr. GOOSE CREEK - Mr. Horace Randle 'Randy' Davis, Sr., age 69, husband of Charlotte Dixon Davis, of Goose Creek, passed away surrounded by his family Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at his residence. Friends and family of Mr. Randy Davis are invited to attend his funeral service on Monday, December 7, 2009 at 2:00 pm at CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. Burial and military honors will immediately follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family of Mr. Davis will be receiving guests at the funeral home this evening, Sunday, December 6, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm and again Monday afternoon from 1:00 until the time of service at 2:00 pm. Mr. Horace Randle Davis was born on March 30, 1940 in Joiner, Arkansas to the late Ira Randle Davis and the late Hazel Frances Bennett Davis. He proudly served his country with the United States Air Force in the Vietnam War in 1964 and 1965. After he returned from war, Randy went to work for Mead-Westvaco. He retired from Westvaco in 2003 with over 38 years of service as a Wood Yard Supervisor. For many years, Mr. Davis was a coach for Fekle Field Youth Football Leagues, coaching Small Fry, Bantam and All-Stars Football. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mrs. Charlotte Victoria Dixon Davis of Goose Creek; two sons, Horace 'Randy' Randle Davis, Jr. of Goose Creek and Scott Brian Davis (Missy) of Summerville; seven grandchildren, Matthew Davis, Randy Davis III, Scott Davis, Elaina Davis, Ginger Davis, Dalton Anderson and Taylor Anderson; six sisters, Peggy Helms (Robert) of Tecumseh, MS, Corliss Nichols (Billy) of Henderson, AR, Marty Williams of PA, Betty Cox (Mike) Henderson, AR, Pam Bryant (Larry) of Biloxi, MS and Gail Carlton of IN; one brother, Larry Davis (Teri) of Henderson, AR; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Flowers will be accepted at the funeral home or memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Horace Randle Davis' memory to the Hospice of Charleston, 3870 Leeds Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. I was so saddened to hear of Randy Davis's passing. I worked with him for a while at the mill before he retired, and I found him to be a smart and capable supervisor with a lot of common sense. My sincere condolences to his family.
