Homer Banks Obituary


BANKS, Homer Homer Howard Banks, 84, of Racine, Ohio, (formerly of Charleston, SC) passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio, after a brief illness. Howard was born on January 12, 1924. Among his accomplishments, he was a WWII Purple Heart recipient, a lifetime member of the NRA, he served in the U.S. Army and retired from the U.S Air Force. He was a member of the Masonic Pythagorean Lodge No. 21 A.F.M. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dottie; his father, Homer H. Banks; his mother, Ethel Mannon Whisman; his stepfather, Jake Whisman; and a sister, Evelyn Gillespie. He is survived by his stepmother, Thelma Belcher, Pomeroy, OH; stepdaughter, Shirley Houser, Jacksonville, FL; stepson, James Banks, Powellton, WV; sisters, Bonnie Lightfoot and Sharon Dean both of Pomeroy, OH, Linda Rapp, Racine, OH, Alice Elliott, Colonial Beach, VA, Brenda Toth, Sandusky, OH; brothers, Albert Banks, Pomeroy, OH, Larry Banks, Syracuse, OH, Arthur (Bill) Banks, Beckley, WV, Robert Banks, Ormond Beach, FL, Lloyd Whisman, Seattle, WA, Carl Whisman, Fayetteville, WV; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 5, 2008 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston. The graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 1:00 PM in Carolina Memorial Park.
