Hickson Skinner Obituary

Hickson Prothro Skinner CHARLESTON - Hickson Prothro Skinner, 91, of Charleston passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010. Born January 22, 1919, in Pregnall, SC, to George Prothro Skinner and Lessie Claire Rumph Skinner. He graduated from Georgia Tech and from 1940-1945 was a pilot in the Navy, retiring as a Commander. While working for the US Department of Health in Columbia he met and married Margaret Ann Carlisle from Columbia. The family spent time in Moultrie, GA while Hickson was a pilot instructor at Hawthorne Aviation before moving to his hometown of Charleston, retiring after 33 years. In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by his children, Hickson Prothro Skinner, Jr. of Woodruff, SC, John Carlisle Skinner and his wife Burness Hanckel Skinner of Charleston, Ann Skinner Hunter and her husband Richard Scott Hunter of Summerville, Allan Grier Skinner and his wife Terri Ward Skinner of Ravenel, Martha Lane Skinner of Seattle WA; and a sister, Ida Skinner Weathers of Charlotte NC; 10 grandchildren, Dawn Carlisle Skinner Snead (Bryan), Joy Hanckel Skinner Sheorn (Blanton), Jason Daniel Raul (Elizabeth), Holly Hunter VanHoy (Justin), John Carlisle Skinner Jr., Julie Hunter Packett (Brion), James Allan Skinner; Carrie Alice Hunter, Katie Marie Skinner, Rosanne Skinner Harriot; as well as two great-grandchildren, Taylor Snead and Hayden Packett. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Skinner are invited to attend his funeral service on Monday, October 11, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., graveside, Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening, Sunday, October 10, 2010, between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 p.m., at JAMES A. MCALISTER FUNERAL HOME, 1620 Savannah Highway. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Mt. Pleasant, 1224 Village Creek Lane B-7 or Charleston Community Sailing, PO Box 21811, Charleston SC 29413. Dear Cousins,
We have truly missed Hickson at church during his illness and will continue to miss him each Sunday morning at St Mark Church. He was a strong Christian, a true Southern Gentleman and always spoke with genuine love of Margaret, his kids and grandkids. Much love to you all during this difficult time.
