Herschel was an amazing man indeed and I owe a great deal of who I today to him. When I was struggling to understand mathematics in High School, at the urging of my mother, he agreed to tutor me. I did not realize at the time what a blessing it was to have such an intelligent, patient and understanding instructor. I was more interested in dating his lovely daughter so it was a struggle for me to maintain focus. But somehow through all the distractions he was able to turn on a light bulb in my head. I went on to major in mathematics in college. Over the years since, I never really got a chance to thank him properly for changing my life. But I am consoled in the fact that there were many whose lives were changed by knowing him. Herschel gave so that others could succeed and this legacy will continue always in those he touched. So from all of us, thank you God for allowing us to share some time with this great man - Herschel Hudson.

Dear Maxine,
Karen and I wish to express our sincere sympathy to you and your family on Herschel's passing. We have fond memories of you both from our days on campus and from time to time afterward.
Herschel and I are both members of the High School of Charleston Class of 1943 for which we are currently planning for our 65th reunion. I will be sure that he is remembered in our prayers.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you,

Aunt Maxine and Shera Lynn,
My and Tina's Thoughts and Prayers are with you at this time. I have fond memories of Uncle Hershel and admired him greatly. It brings on a smile to think about his teaching me how to use my first 35 mm camera; coaching me as I learned to play the trumpet; playing that piano so hard that it moved across the living room; learning the Judo moves, and telling my friends and letting them try that cologne that my Uncle Hershel formulated. Those are some of the memories I have from years past with Uncle Hershel. Love, Johnny
