Herbert Guerry Obituary

GUERRY, SR., Herbert LAKE CITY - Mr. Herbert Oliver Guerry, Sr., 90, husband of the late Alice Parker Guerry, died Monday, May 8, 2006 in a Florence hospital after an illness. Mr. Guerry was born in Charleston, SC, the son of the late Chester Joshua and Doris Catherine Dietz Guerry. He was retired as secretary-treasurer of Dixon Lumber Company. Mr. Guerry was a member of Lake City Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon, former treasurer and Sunday School superintendent. He was a charter member of the Lions Club of Lake City, former chairman of the Lake City Library Board, Mason with Lake City Lodge #193AFM as a 50 year life member and Omar Shriner. Mr. Guerry was a member of the Southern Lumber Manufacturing Association. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps doing Forestry and Surveying and in the Home Guard of WWII. SURVIVORS INCLUDE: Two daughters, Catherine Guerry (Ed) Blacka of Columbia, MD, and Dr. Julia Guerry (Albert) Mims of Lake City, SC; two sons, Bert (Susie) Guerry and Dickie Guerry both of Lake City, SC; one brother, Chester Arthur Guerry of Columbia, SC; and five grandchildren, Jan Blacka (Craig) Green of Hamilton, VA, David Blacka of Reston, VA, Dr. Alice Mims of Winston Salem, NC, Anna Mims of Lambert, MS and Susan Mims of Lake City, SC. He was predeceased by two sisters; Vivian Guerry Tamsberg of Charleston, SC and Edna Guerry Barbee of Huntersville, NC. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 11, 2006 in Lake City Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to Lake City Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 477, Lake City, SC, 29560, Meals on Wheels, P.O.
