Herbert Drayton Obituary

Herbert L. Drayton, Jr. CHARLESTON - Herbert L. Drayton, Jr., made the transition to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 19, 2020. He was the son of the late Thelma and Herbert L. Drayton, Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Steplight Drayton, his late brothers, Robert B. Drayton, James Earl Drayton, Theodore Drayton and Tony Drayton. Herbert was a faithful member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church for more than 60 years where he served in many roles including Senior Warden. He spent his professional life beautifying and restoring many of the region's most historic homes and cultural sites. In his free time, many hours were spent on the battery or other hot fishing spots across Charleston. He leaves to mourn three daughters, Angelina K. Wright, Laurel O. Foxworth, Virna L. Williams, three sons, Herbert L. Drayton, III., Robert B. Drayton, Derrick W. Drayton and one daughter-in-law, Henrietta M. Rivers; four sisters, Thelma Mitchell, Inell Joyner (Dennis), Andrea Thompson (James), Sandra Perry; two brothers, Ernest Drayton, Vernon Drayton and uncle, Bernard "Noy" Martin. He has seven grandchildren, LaCritia Felder (Johnny), Alfred T. Wright, Myeshia P. Wright, Kariesha N. Drayton, Aaron J. Wright, H. Jordon Drayton, and Candice M. Drayton, five great- grandchildren, Johnny Felder IV, Jalen Felder, Zayviion Wright, Ja'Liayh Watson and Takary Wright; two brothers-in-law, one special friend, Carlotta and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. You are invited to a private Family Service of Celebration and Remembrance to be held at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 67 Anson Street, 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. The family is asking that everyone please wear your mask before entering the church. The family is also asking that instead of flowers, please make donations in Herbert's name to the shelter.
