Henry C. Moses CHARLESTON - Henry C. Moses, of Bishop Gadsden Retirement Community, Charleston SC, husband of Lora Green Moses, died September 13, 2013, at the age of 96. His memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 in The Chapel at Bishop Gadsden at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Henry was born in New York City, NY, the son of the late Helen Beatrice Anderson of London, England and the late Henry C. Moses of Montgomery AL. He lived most of his life in New Rochelle and Bronxville, NY and later in Westerly, RI. After graduating from Princeton, and Harvard Law School, he worked as a legislative assistant to Senator Robert A. Taft, then served in the Office of Naval Intelligence and the Naval Amphibious Forces. Henry took park on D-Day in both the Normandy and Southern France invasions, and thereafter as Commanding Officer of an LST in the Pacific. Following WWII he engaged in the private practice of law, then became counsel and later General Counsel of Mobil Oil Company, after which hew was, for eleven years, Vice President of Mobil Oil Corporation, responsible for their interests in the Middle East. Among his other activities after retirement in 1973, were climbing with Tenzing Norgay to 17000 feet on K3 in the Himalayas, a position as a "name" in Lloyds of London, and his chairmanship of three European concert tours for a large chorus in Westerly, RI in which he and both wives sang. He was a member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church of Charleston, and his wife remains so. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, Lora, Henry leaves two children, Margery Phillips of Norwich, VT, Catherine Barber of Westerly, RI and daughter-in-law Mary Sarah Holland of Bristol VT; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five stepchildren, a brother, John Moses of Rexford, NY. He is predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Frost in 1986, and his son, Henry in 2008. Memorial gifts in honor of Henry C.
