Henry Lipe Obituary

LIPE, JR., Henry Henry Luther Lipe, Jr., 86, died Friday, April 3, 2009 in Mt. Pleasant, SC. A native of Kannapolis, NC, he was the son of the late Henry Luther Lipe, Sr. and Nellie Witherspoon Lipe. After graduating from the Citadel in 1943, he served in the US Army until 1946. His duties included service in the ETO and 78th Infantry Division and was awarded the Silver and Bronze Stars. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Golden K. Kiwanis Club of Asheville, and enjoyed golf. Mr. Lipe's business for 38 years was in Sales and Marketing as Vice-President with Cannon Mills, Inc. in New York as well as other cities on the East Coast and Midwest. After retiring in 1987, he and his wife Mary moved to Asheville 1988. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Gill Lasky of Charleston SC, his son, Henry Lipe, III of Vashon WA. and five grandchildren, Sarah, Henry IV, Molly, Audrey and Shannon. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Dellinger Lipe, daughter, Anne Ross Zielenbach, brother Edwin Lipe and sister Louise Lipe Cline. A funeral service will be held 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 in the Chapel of Central United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Blackburn, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the WNC Veteran's Cemetery at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to The Citadel Foundation Fund, 171 Moultrie St., Charleston, SC 29409 or Central United Methodist Church, 27 Church St., Asheville, NC 28801.
