Henry Finch Obituary

Henry Taylor Finch, Sr. ISLE OF PALMS - Henry Taylor Finch, Sr., 78, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010, at his residence. Friends and relatives are invited to visit the family at J. Henry Stuhr's Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at Stuhr's Mt. Pleasant Chapel at 12:30 p.m. Friday with burial immediately following at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant. Henry Taylor Finch was born December 16, 1931, in Columbia to the late Raymon R. Finch and the late Maxcy Rouquie Finch. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of First United Methodist Church of Isle of Palms. An ardent businessman, Mr. Finch established Computer Records in Columbia in 1964. By the time the company was sold it had been expanded to other locations in both Carolinas and Georgia. In 1972 he and his brothers purchased property on Isle of Palms that they developed as Isle of Palms Beach & Racquet Club, later renamed Wild Dunes. When Wild Dunes was sold in 1987, Mr. Finch retained ownership of Wild Dunes Yacht Harbor for a number of years. A portion was eventually sold to the City of Isle of Palms to become the island's municipal marina. He was an avid boater and fisherman and enjoyed being on the water until his declining health precluded it. Mr. Finch founded Cell-Page Communication with offices in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. He started Hetafi Communication and numerous development partnerships before retiring. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by family, friends, and associates. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Frances Rodgers Finch; three sons, Henry "J" Taylor Finch, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, William Rouquie Finch and his wife, Susan, Mac Monteith Finch and his wife, Lorie; two daughters, Susan Finch Stevens and her husband, David, and Nancy Finch Moore; nine grandchildren, Megan Stevens Murph and her husband, Todd, Henry Justin Finch and wife, Kara, Erin Finch Stevens, William Brandon Finch and his wife, Lacey, Chauncey Frances Finch, Elizabeth Ann Finch, Adler Chase Moore, Charles MacCrea Finch, Marshall Travis Finch; two great-grandchildren, Hope Stevens Murph and Anna Grace Finch; and one brother, Michael Trezvant Finch and his wife, Carmen. Mr. Finch was preceded in death by his brother Raymon R. Finch, Jr. and his son-in-law Richard Moore. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to all of the wonderful caregivers who have provided care and support for Mr. Finch during the past several years. To the Finch Family,
I am sorry to hear of Henry's passing. He was such a good man. During the early years of IOP Beach and Racquet Club, Henry always had the vision. We shared many laughs over the years and I am thankful he encouraged me to buy my first home on Forest Trail. When I asked if I should purchase the home, Henry answered simply by saying "they just aren't making any more islands so I can't see how you could go wrong!" I always cherished his advice. He will be greatly missed. I am thankful to have been a part of Henry's Team. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Mr. Henry Finch was my first employer after completing four years of military service. Computer Records only had one office in Columbia.
We continued to grow the business into five processing centers. I learned a lot from Henry, Mr. Finch Senior, and Ken Long. I will always remember the good times and also some bad ones with fond memories of Henry and the entire Finch family. God bless you Francis and all your family in this difficult time. Jerry W. Boyd
