Helen Phelps N. CHARLESTON - Mrs. Helen Derrick Lester Phelps, 90, wife of James R. Phelps, residence North Charleston, entered into eternal rest on Sunday November 25, 2012. Funeral services for Mrs. Helen L. Phelps were held Saturday, December 1, 2012 at twelve thirty o'clock p.m. at CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, with her burial at Carolina Memorial Park. Helen was born September 5, 1922 in Newberry, SC to the late Claude Lamont Lester and Mabel Lucille Derrick Lester. She had worked as a LPN for over 20 years for Dr. A. Bert Pruitt Jr. and she loved flowers and enjoyed digging in the dirt. She was a member of the Brentwood Garden Club, and Peace Lutheran Church. Helen sewed for "her girls", including making her daughters Easter dresses and she loved to bake especially her Red Velvet and Chocolate Pound cakes. Helen will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, James R. Phelps, daughters: Helen Elizabeth "Betty" Perry of Charleston, SC, Cheryl Ann Ingram of Summerville and Rose Marie MacGilvray also of Charleston, SC, sisters: Mildred Walker of Camden, SC, Freda Dawkins of Greensville, SC and Janelle Othersen of Charleston, SC, a brother: Clyde Lester of Newberry, SC, grandchildren: Greg Perry, Chris Ingram (Shannon M.) Dr. Marcel A. MacGilvray (Phylilis M.), April P. Warford (Michael Carter) and Dr. Benjamin D. Ingram (Laura B.), 10 great-grandchildren, Trevor Cole Perry, Ansley Warford, Benjamin Warford, Maddie Ingram, Caroline Ingram, Rose MacGilvray, Ian MacGilvray, Hughes Ingram, Joshua Ingram and Evelyn Ingram and Graytail the cat! She was preceded in death by her son: Ronald James MacGilvray, her sister: Margaret Shealy and a brother James C. Lester both of Newberry, SC.
