Helen Lyras Obituary

Helen Affen Lyras Mt. Pleasant - Helen Affen Lyras, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, widow of Paul Lyras, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 23, 2016. Helen was born in NYC on October 4, 1927 to the late Cornelius Affen and Isminie Homerides Affen. She attended schools in NYC and graduated from Hunter College. In 1952, she met Paul, the love of her life, in Paris, France, and was married for 25 years. She loved family, friends, trees, the ocean, the beach, sunsets, and the arts. In 2011, she moved back to the U.S. to Franke at Seaside, a vibrant retirement community. There she filled her days with social, cultural, spiritual, and physical activities. She was an avid reader and an eager learner. She shared love, joy, support, smiles, and gratitude with all around her. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lydia and Arnold Freilich of Daniel Island, SC; her daughter-in-law, Laurence Postec, of Paris, France; her sister, Alice Calamidas of Marlton, NJ; her sister-in-law, Elsie Lenne of Paris, France; her granddaughters, Caroline Lyras of Paris, France, Sophie Lyras of Barcelona, Spain, and Melissa Fuchs of Wanaque, NJ; her grandson, Bryan Freilich of Levittown, NY; her great-grandchildren, Hayley Fuchs of Wanaque, NJ and Robbie Freilich of Levittown, NY. She was preceded in death by her son, Philippe Lyras. Her Memorial Service will be held Thursday, July 28, 2016 in the Rodenberg Chapel, Franke at Seaside, at 11AM. Arrangements by J.
