Helen Beshere Obituary

Helen Lenora Jones Beshere SUMMERVILLE - Helen Lenora Jones Beshere, 96, of Summerville, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2014. She battled the effects of Alzheimer's throughout her last years with courage and dignity. Helen was born January 13, 1918 in Charleston, the daughter of Robert C. and Elizabeth Louise Bowick. She attended Mitchell Grade School and Memminger High School. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a wonderful seamstress who taught all three of her children her art. Helen was a stay at home mom. She had a wonderful flair for decorating and keeping her home well organized. Her efforts to make her home that way created a loving and welcoming sanctuary for her husband and children. Her family felt secure and comforted in the fact that Mom would be there to greet them at the end of their day. She was a faithful member of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and Blessed Sacrament Church. She will be deeply missed by her children: Helen Patricia Beshere Bizzell of Kinston, NC, Mary Ann Beshere Schoch (Bernard) of Summerville, and George A. Beshere, Jr. (Jeannie) of Florence. She was a loving grandmother to Helen Rebecca Bizzell (Charles Ayers) of Greenville, NC, Brian Christopher Bizzell of Kinston, NC, Ansley Elizabeth Beshere of Portland, OR, Ronald Ware Hatchell, Jr. (Jacqueline) of Columbia, SC; Sarah Elizabeth Barksdale (Frank) of Lexington, SC; and great-grandchildren Alexandria and Jacob Hatchell and Amanda and William Barksdale. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, George; sisters, Louise Downs, Roberta C. Slavo, and Adaline Mattson; half-brother, Robert C. Jones, Jr.; granddaughter, Amanda Marie Hatchell; and sons-in-law, Hyman M. Bizzell, Jr. and Ronald Ware Hatchell, Sr. Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, 28 Sumter Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to the Alzheimer's Association, 2090 Executive Hall Rd, Charleston, SC 29407. Aunt Helen was a beautiful, sweet person who always made people feel comfortable. Mom & I loved to visit her and she never failed to welcome us with open arms. I was fortunate enough to maintain a correspondence with her until she left us. Have kept all her letters & am grateful to have them.

My deepest condolences to all of you .
Your mother was a lovely talented woman.
She inspired me to sew and I have continued to do so for 50 years .I remember when I showed off my maternity top that I had made and she
gently told me to "ease my sleeve caps" next time and to this day when I set in a sleeve,I think of her.
My husband suffered with Alzheimers Disease for over 10 years before he died .I can identify with what you all went through.
She is whole again and in the arms of The Father.

To Pat, George, Mary Ann, and families, our childhoods were so intertwined as first cousins. Your mom was my god mother as well as my most special aunt. I used to feel like a princess when I visited your beautiful home and wore the special dresses tailored by your mom. The thing I remember most was her melodic voice, which always sounded like sweet candy moving through the air. She will be missed and always treasured. My love to you all, Mary Mattson
