Harvey Jones Obituary

JONES, Harvey Harvey Gerald George Jones, 74, of Moncks Corner, SC, retired owner and operator of George Jones Mobile Homes, died Thursday in a North Charleston hospital. The funeral will be 3:30 PM Sunday afternoon, Sept. 3, 2006, cryptside in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta, GA. Entombment will follow. Friends may call at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM this Saturday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 2070 Northbrook Blvd., Ste. B1, N. Charleston, SC 29406, or to a charity of one's choice. Mr. Jones was born Sept. 29, 1931, in Bath, SC, a son of Harvey C. Jones and Willie Mae Wilson Jones Toole. He was preceded in death by his step father, J. Laurie Toole and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Jones began his career in manufactured housing in 1958, working part time for Schultz Hill Mobile Homes in his home town of Augusta, GA. He ultimately was transferred to Charleston in the early 1960's. After Schultz Hill Homes closed in 1966, Harvey worked for several large dealer corporations and in 1975, founded George Jones Mobile Homes on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston. Harvey's wife, Ann, then began working for the company handling the administrative and insurance end of the business. The company was moved to Highway 52 in Moncks Corner in 1983 where it prospered until Harvey and Ann retired in 1994. With his near 40 years experience within the manufactured housing industry, Harvey's knowledge continued to influence the company through his visits and counsel. Surviving are, his wife of 54 years, Ann McNorrill Jones; three daughters, Sheila Laurent and her husband, Paul, and Roxane Lane and her husband, Wendell, all of Summerville, and Nancy Monogan of James Island; a sister, Elizabeth Symms and her husband, Sam, of Augusta; and four grandchildren, James Jamie Monogan, III, Jenna Monogan, Amy Laurent, and Paige Lane. Mrs. Ann. My family and I are thinking of you and send you our heartfelt condolences. It seems like only yesterday that Mr. Jones and I were talking about our love of dogs. I admired his lovingness and knowledge. I was deeply moved by the devotion you and your family showed during the period of Mr. Jones illness. Your concern was one of many indications of your love for him. With affection and deep sympathy we hope that your fond memories of Mr. Jones will give you comfort, as it will us. We will remember him and how he greatly helped our family every time Beaufort and Brandy look up at us. Thank you for all of your help, and our deepest sympathy for your loss.
