Harry Vermeer Obituary

Harry P. Vermeer, age 60, of Valencia, CA, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2009 after a courageous 16-month battle with lung cancer.

Harry was born on October 12, 1948 in Holland to Piet and Wilhelmina Vermeer. The family moved to the United States when he was 11 years old and eventually settled in La Crescenta, CA where he graduated from Crescenta Valley High School class of 1966 and went on to Glendale College.

Harry began working for the City of Glendale DWP and in 1987 went to work for the Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power (PD & C Division) for 13 years and was currently employed with the City of Los Angeles (GSD Construction Forces).

Harry is survived by his wife, Nancy (Garcia) Vermeer; his sons, Garrit (Stacey) of AR, Bryce of Las Vegas, NV; his sister, Eveline (Frank) Eaton of AZ; his brother, Rob (Debbie) of Rim Forest, CA and his grandchildren, Jace and Teagan who he was known as by "Opa".

Rose Family Funeral Home in Simi Valley, CA is handling inurnment. A private service will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harry's name may be made to the Cancer Fund at Henry Mayo Memorial Health Foundation, 23845 McBean Pkwy, Valencia, CA 91355 or to the American Cancer Society.
