Harry Stevens Bishop
Folly Beach - Harry Bishop, 87, of Folly Beach, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026, surrounded by the family and friends he loved so dearly. He courageously navigated the challenges of dementia for the past five years with the same grace he showed throughout his life.
Born in Athens, Georgia, to the late Edward Marshall Bishop and Sara Frances Copeland, Harry's heart always belonged to the coast. A 1956 graduate of Charleston High School, he went on to earn his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina in 1960.
Following graduation, Harry answered the call to serve his country. He spent ten years in the U.S. Navy as an engineer and supply officer during the Vietnam War, a period of service that defined his lifelong discipline and dedication.
Upon returning to civilian life, Harry channeled his energy into the Lowcountry landscape he knew so well. For over 50 years, he owned and operated Harry Bishop Realty Co., personally managing more than 35 properties. His professional excellence was recognized by his peers, who named him "Realtor of the Year" and elected him President of the MLS.
Harry's commitment to others extended far beyond his business. A Boy Scout in his youth, he carried those values into adulthood as an active member of the Rotary Club of Charleston. He was particularly passionate about his role as the School Coordinator for Reading Friends, a literacy program dedicated to helping local youth master the arts of reading and writing.
When he wasn't closing a deal, Harry was happiest on Folly Beach. He was a fixture on the local waters-swimming, boating, and fishing in the rivers and the ocean. On land, he could be found perfecting his swing on the golf course with friends or "tinkering" under the hood of his beloved antique cars in the garage. Those who knew him will forever remember his tireless work ethic, his gentle, loving demeanor, and his unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand.
Harry's greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Bishop; his daughters, Lauren Bishop (Pam Bishop) and Jennifer Bishop (Jack Orsulak); his grandchildren, Luke Bishop Orsulak, Chelsey Conlon, Michael Weishaar, and Bryan Weishaar; and his great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Standridge, Wyatt Weishaar, and Sarah Weishaar. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gay Pardee.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, February 27, at the Folly Beach United Methodist Church. A reception will follow in the church hall, where friends and family are invited to share stories and honor a life well-lived.
