Harry Hill Obituary
Rev. Harry N. Hill JAMES ISLAND - Rev. Harry N. Hill passed away at home on August 21st. The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice and Daryl Young of Carolina Memorial for their loving and compassionate care. Harry would like to be remembered for his stories told from the pulpit, his love of music, and to envision his catching a baseball game in God's field of dreams. A memorial service will be held on September 27th at 11 A.M. at the James Island Presbyterian Church (USA). 1632 Fort Johnson Rd. A reception will follow. Harry was born in Scottsburg, Indiana, on December 23, 1936, but grew up in Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dwight and Helen Graham Hill, his sister, Peggy Hill Howell, and a daughter, Audrey Hill Scott. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Peggy Kitchens Hill; a son, Mark, P. Hill, Sr., (Elizabeth); grandchildren, Mark P. Hill, Jr. (Caroline), John E. Scott III (Katy), Amanda (Amy) Davis (Billy), and Robert N. Hill; great-grandchildren, Logan Hill, Amelia and Cole Davis, Caroline and John E; Scott IV. Harry was ordained in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1960. He served churches in Kentucky and Tennessee. Later, he worked in business with Shoney's Big Boy and PYA MONARCH. He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 1985, where he served churches in Denmark and Bamberg, SC, Grundy, VA and Warner Robins, GA. After retirement, he served five years as a Parish Associate at the James Island Presbyterian Church (USA). Harry also preached in many churches in the Charleston-Atlantic Presbyterian. He especially enjoyed his time at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church (USA) in Hollywood, SC. The highlight of his preaching career was two pastoral exchanges in Scotland in 1991 and 1998. Two of the joys of his life were coaching, umpiring and reffing at the James Island YMCA, reading to the daycare kids, and having childrens' church with them. Harry was a devoted fan of Kentucky Wildcats, Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, and Carolina Hurricanes. Memorials may be made to the James Island Presbyterian Church (USA) Congretional Care or the Youth and Children's Committee. May the Lord bless you and give you peace.
