Harriet Fields Obituary

You raised a good boy, Mrs. Fields. I said a prayer for you and my Mom who recently passed away. Put flowers on my Moms grave for her and one for you, this past Mothers Day. I'll watch over Chucky for you but I will need some help. Bob Welch

It was a shock and with much grief that I read of your mother's passing. She was a great woman, a woman of great character. I will always remember the visits that our families shared when your parents came to visit. You and your family are in our prayers.

God is in control. Your parents are just fine. Keep your head up. I learned so much from them. Your dad taught me how and where to buy a car and your Mom taught me how to stand tall and how to keep going even when things are bad. I had the pleasure of meeting them when I worked at the Capital City Club. I can remember the smile they would have on their face upon arrival and the words of wisdom they always left with me. Their memories will live forever. I truly thank God for them. Be encouraged.

Harriet was a grand lady. She was truly a comfort to our family when my brother (Rev. C. L. McMillian) passed some years ago. We share deeply your loss.

When I think of people I admire, Harriet Gardin Fields comes to mind because she was such a great person, political activist and community leader.

Words cannot describe you. Let me just say you were great, and you did so much for us. Though your warmth and love will be missed, the gifts you left will live on within us, and bring smiles to our faces and happiness to our hearts.

Our prayers and sincere sympathy are extended to the family of our dear friend, Harriett.

When I think of Mrs. Harriet, I think of an advocate. She was a fighter. I worked with her for about 2 years and she was a very well-versed, outspoken, well-rounded, classy lady. My heart-felt sympathies go out the the family during this time of transition.

My condolences to Harriet's immediate family and to her extended family, especially in the counseling profession.
Harriett was a stalwart in pursuit of legislation that would enhance the profession of counseling, be it in agencies, private practice or in public schools.
She was an icon in the South Carolina Counseling Association and the South Carolina School Counselor Association.
I had the privilege of working with Harriett in various capacities for over 20 years. She always stood ready to "go to bat" for what was right and decent for all people...especially the less fortunate...and especially in the education arena.
The South Carolina has met with great loss over the past months, in the loss of Dr. Charles Latimer, my late wife, Pris Hutchison, and of course Harriett.

Well done thou good and faithful servant...

I never had the pleasure of knowing Ms. Fields, but it is in those paths that life leads us that we of one heart; in our giving and sharing, are intricately linked. My prayers are with you and your family. May you continue to be blessed and find solace in His love.

Harriett will be missed by many people in many ways. We all share your sadness and our prayers go out to you. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Harriet's family. I cannot count the number of times Harriet and I worked together on behalf of all the counselors in South Carolina. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Her guidance was always sincere and she was loved by everyone who knew her.

I met Harriet several years ago through SC School Counselors Association and the SC Counseling Association. She was a mentor to me and I always admired her willingness to "blaze her own trails". She taught me much and I am so glad that God allowed her to be a part of my life.

I met your Mother back in 1975 and she talked me into going back to school and get my GED. She was always the same every time I saw her> I know that she touched alot of lives. She was a wonderful person.

Harriet was such a dynamic woman! Full of purpose & energy, but so much fun! Irrepressible & irreplaceable. Harriet will be greatly missed.

I remember Harriet as a determined champion for moral and social causes. She was a strong woman of character who made many valuable contributions to education and to those seeking it in their lives. She will be dearly missed by so many whose lives were enriched by her work.

Harriet was such a viable and enthusiastic person. I met her in high school at some of the All-State band activities and then we were at SCSU together. Cherish your time with her and keep her memories alive for her grandchildren.

Chucky, Your Mom was not only my babysitter but she was a true friend. I'm sorry for your lost. I'm praying for you.

I met your mother while working at the State NAACP Office. Before I met her I was asked if I was related to her, once we met she would refer to me as her sister. She will be greatly missed.

Your mother was a wonderful person. When I moved to Columbia and joined Francis Burns, she embraced me and my infant son. (We both were Fields and had sons) She always had an encouraging word. She stood up for what she believed and she taught me to do the same thing. Harriet was a real 'Sojourner of Truth' and fighter for justice; a wonderful mother - You were her 'life'. Years ago I moved from Columbia, but Harriett remained and will remain in my heart. Loosing a mother is a sadness and transition in our lives. But Harriet would want you to remember the smiles, the things that she said and did; some tears and most of all her love for life.
