Carolyn Parker Gooden

Hi Sherri;
I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your father. This is Carolyn Parker Gooden and your Mom & I worked together at the Magistrate's office in Sumter, SC and I considered she & Harry dear friends of mine. Harry was no stranger to anyone he met and when we all got together or when he visited the Magistrate's office to drop off the newest school supplies for the kids we anxiously waited to hear his jokes. We all laugh so hard that Betty had to remind Harry that we were at work. But what I remembered the most was how much Harry loved his family. I thought of Harry often and tried locating him after I found out months later that your Mom had pass. Even though this is sad news I pray that you lean on the Lord for strength and the love of family & friends in the days ahead. Sherri, take care of yourself, Be Bless and Be a Blessing for you are in my prayers.

Sherri, I never met you but feel I know a lot about you as your dad loved to talk about you; it was obvious that he loved you dearly and was very proud of you. I first met Harry when I was an assistant principal in Marion, SC. At the time he was working for an office and church supply company in Sumter. He called on the school as a sales rep and we hit it off immediately. Later, when he began to work for Brame he continued to call on us and we were one of his biggest customers. Harry helped get me started in deer hunting and we had numerous "hunting" conversations. I had two young daughters at the time and Harry made sure the sidewalks around the house were constantly decorated as he provided them with plenty of sidewalk chalk. My youngest daughter still cherishes the baseball that Harry got Bobby Richardson to sign and then gave to her. I later moved to Fort Mill to be a principal and we slowly lost touch as he didn't work this area, although we did meet from time to time at conferences. We always enjoyed those times together. David Warner would keep me up to date on him and he was the one who got the word to me about his passing. Harry was a wonderful person, a great salesman and a great friend. I missed seeing him these past few years and know that you will certainly miss having him in your life. I will always cherish having him in my life as well.

Sherri, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of loss. I have such wonderful memories of your father. I always loved when Harry came by to visit. It was more than a sales call. We both loved baseball, the Yankees, and our spouses. He talked so lovingly about your mom, Betty, that I felt that I knew her; and he tolerated stories about my husband, George. I have missed his visits and his many stories. He always made me laugh and was a dear friend. He will be missed greatly by those who cared for him, but take solace in the knowledge that he is now with God and his beloved Betty.

I did not have the pleasure of ever meeting Harry but know he must have been a great man to have given us the gift of his daughter Sherri. She has been and will continue to be a legacy of which any father would be honored. May God bless Sherri and Jim with his peace and love which surpasses all understanding.

Sherry and Jim, I send you my deepest condolences. I just lost my father on Dec 23 so I know that there is nothing I can say to truly comfort you but know that I care about you and I will have you and your father in my prayers.

I have wonderful memories of Harry from those High School and American Legion days in Sumter. We lost touch over the years but thank God for memories. Harry left a legacy we will all remember. God Bless his family and friends in this sad time.

I have known Harry for years; he sold me school supplies to help the children of the school districts where I worked. He was a wonderful man and cared deeply about people, God, his community and baseball. He brought my son, Beau, a baseball signed by Bobby Richardson, which we all cherish today.
God bless you all who knew and loved him. He truly is where he ahouls be now. In Heaven with God and His Angels.
