Harold Haasl Obituary

Harold "Hair Bear" Haasl, age 56, of 1050 3rd Street North, Wisconsin Rapids, WI died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Riverview Medical Center.

Funeral Services are 11:00 AM Friday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Rev. Timothy Welles will officiate. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery with military rites provided by VFW Post #2534 of Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be held at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids from 4:00-7:00 PM Thursday and Friday at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM.

Bear was born September 18, 1955 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI to Raymond and Evelyn (Marsh) Haasl. He served in the U.S. Army from 1973-1976. Bear was employed at Four Stools Short and Central Home Improvements. Bear loved his bear collection, especially his bear, Christopher, was an avid NASCAR fan especially Matt Kenseth, avid Green Bay Packers fan, and avid Milwaukee Brewers fan and an avid fan of Def Leppard. Bear always enjoyed watching MASH and collecting memorabilia of the show.

Bear is survived by brothers and sisters- Alan (Brenda) Haasl of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Diane (Jim) Urbans of Rudolph, WI, Jerry (Dawn) Haasl of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Michael Haasl of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Kathy Powell of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Linda Finup of Necedah, WI, Jackie (Mike) Buchanan of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Ray (Cheryl) Ehlert of Menasha, WI, Judy (Tom) Brown of Naples, FL, Mary (Mike) Goetz-Mustange of Orlando, FL, Kathy (Scott) Hall of North Fort Myers, FL and Lisa (John) Bailey of Wausau, WI. Bear is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Bear was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Evelyn Haasl; two sisters, Jean Haasl and Debi Powell; and two step mothers, Dorothy and Leah.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to the American Cancer Society or to the Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI.

"Bear's family would like to thank the staff at the Veterans Hospital and the Infusion Clinic in Madison, WI and the staff at Riverview Hospital and the UW Cancer center- Riverview for the wonderful care given their brother."

Sorry to hear about Bear...I remember he used to call WGLX (when the station was still in Rapids) and request "Roll with the Changes" by REO Speedwagon whenever he'd work overnights at David Harold's. I never met him in person, but we would chat quite a bit on the phone in the wee hours of the morning...he was definitely one of a kind. Keep on rolling Bear!

To the Haasl family: you have my deepest sympathies! I can honestly say that I never met such a soul as Hair Bear. He was loved by so many. I don't remember him ever saying anything bad about anyone. May you rest in peace dear friend! I hope fond memories of this special person will help with the healing process. God...You've got one of the good ones with you now.I just found out today and am sad that I did not make it to his funeral....Again I say REST IN PEACE dear friend!
