Gwendolyn Simmons Obituary

Gwendolyn Albena Simmons Mt. Pleasant - Gwendolyn Simmons, wife of Enoch Simmons, Sr., died March 18, 2021, in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Gwendolyn Albena Simmons was born on August 11, 1951, in Charleston, SC, to Henrietta Smalls. She was raised by her grandparents, Mr. Bias and Henrietta Fell. Gwen or Gwennie, as she liked to be called, married Enoch Simmons, Sr. on June 24, 1972. They moved from Charleston to Mt. Pleasant to raise their family and spent the rest of their married lives here. On April 6, 1975, Gwen chose to dedicate her life in baptism and became one of Jehovah's Witnesses. This decision, along with marriage and becoming a mother, was a very important life choice that had a pivotal impact on her. Her love for Jehovah was expressed in the way she lived her life and the way she treated others. Gwen's love for children was apparent by the way she cared for her own children, grandchildren, young cousins and the children she helped raise during her career as a housekeeper. Gwen had a kind, loving and affectionate personality that was felt by many people who knew her. It was especially felt by her coworkers in her second career as a deli clerk. She had the gift of patience to service customers and work well with others. So, be it family, friends or coworkers, she will be missed by all. She is survived by her husband of Mt Pleasant; daughter, Leaunda Antia Simmons of Mt. Pleasant; son, Enoch Simmons, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant; three grandchildren, Kashamere S.D. Simmons, Janae D. Simmons, and Javeah Prioleau; sisters, Donna Smalls, Debrah Fell, Pamela Fell, Sheila Fell, Poolia Smalls, and Sabrina Smalls; and brothers, Richard Fell and Ernest Fell. A memorial service celebrating Gwen's life will be held via Zoom on Saturday, April 10th, at 12 noon. Gwennie was truly one of a kind. One of the most loving people I've ever known. Soft spoken with a big heart. I would always look forward to seeing her and Tia on the weekends. Listening to my grandmother and Gwennie tell stories of past times. Through it all she was always there for us no matter what and I'm so thankful for her and Tia. I will always cherish my time and memories with her. We love you Gwennie.
