Gwendolwn Mertrud Obituary

MERTRUD, Gwendolwn Mrs. Gwendolwn 'Gwen' (Grooms) Mertrud, 74, wife of Victor, of Hanahan, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at her residence. Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral services on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 12:30 P.M. at CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 this evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Mertrud was born in Charleston on May 2, 1932 to Joseph P. Parks and Beulah Louise Games. Mrs. Mertrud was a graduate of Trident Technical Instituate and formerly employed for 13 years as a Lab Technician at Mobay Chemical. She also was employed as a lifeguard for the City of Charleston, a EMS Technician, ambulance driver and attendant and held a South Carolina Real Estate License. Mrs. Mertrud had a passion for the political arena. She was an active member of the Berkeley County Republican Club, active in 'The Citizens of Hanahan', and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband Victor Mertrud of Hanahan, and one daughter Patricia Wisand of Erie, PA. Mrs. Mertrud was preceded in death by her son, Michael Anthony Grooms. Flowers will be accepted at the funeral home or memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Mertrud's name to The American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Rd., Charleston, SC, 29406.
