Guadalupe Keener Obituary

Guadalupe Keener SUMMERVILLE - Mrs. Guadalupe (Lupe) Keener 93, formerly of James Island, entered into eternal rest Sunday, October 27th at home surrounded by her loving family. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2024 in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church 5 Saint Teresa Dr, Charleston, SC 29407, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 4, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel 232 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401. Born on December 12, 1930 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, she was the daughter of Alejandrina Colon Martinez and Jose Martinez. Lupe proudly became an American citizen in 1965. She retired after 38 years from Belk, South Windermere. She enjoyed her work and loved the people she worked with. Known for her joyful spirit and love for people, she was often seen with a smile on her face. Lupe enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, knitting, and was always eager for new adventures, frequently asking, "Where are we going tomorrow?' Her family was her pride and joy. She cherished her role as "Nana", forming special bonds with each grandchild. Even as she faced the challenges of dementia, the arrival of her sweet great-granddaughters brought her immense happiness. Lupe loved the Lord and her faith, and would enjoy old Christian hymns, even long into her last stages of dementia. Lupe was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Charleston and attended St. John the Beloved after moving to Summerville. Lupe is survived by her daughter, Celeste Keener Pace and her husband, Tommy of Summerville, along with three grandchildren: TJ Pace of Summerville, Joseph Pace and his wife, Laura, of Summerville, and Mira Khalil and her husband, Yusef of Mt. Pleasant. She also leaves behind two great-granddaughters, Ann and Audrey Pace of Summerville, one sister, (Estella) and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Joseph A. Keener and a daughter, Palmira Keener Modica, two brothers, Francikito, and Edwardo and three sisters, Tina, Celita, and Yolanda. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer Research and Clinical Programs MUSC 5900 Core Road, North Charleston, Parkinson Research Foundation 5969 Cattleridge Blvd., Suite 100, Sarasota, FL 34232, Lupus Foundation of America 2000 L Street NW Ste. 140, Washington, DC 20036-4916 www.lupus.org. So sorry to hear of Lupe's passing. Working with her from South Windermere Belk on was such a joy. If there was something she could do for someone, she would, even providing food for my wedding at Alhambra Hall. Love and God bless to you all.
