Dear Windy, I don't know if you remember me, but we were friends at St. Paul's Church in Columbia when we were young teenagers. I know I missed you very much when you moved away! I think we wrote a few letters but the time just slipped away from us. I am so sorry to learn about your father. I hope that the wonderful memories you have of your father will comfort you and give you peace. I remember being at your house on so many occasions, and your father always had a kind word for me and the other kids that were there--dancing to the loud music of the early 60's. Your father just pleasantly took our antics in stride. I have many fond memories of our time together back then. My mother and father also send their condolences to you and your family. Take care and maybe we'll see each other soon. Love, Pam (Wilson) Fusco

I'm glad that I had the opportunity to see Uncle Grover one last time on Monday. He couldn't talk but he knew I was there. I'm sorry that I can't make the funeral Thursday but I'd like to share two short stories about my Dad and Grover.
First, Uncle Grover was almost six years older than James. So when Grover was old enough to date Dad thought it would be funny to set a boobie trap on the front door to announce his return that evening. It consisted of several tin cans built in tower design and placed just inside of the front door. Sure enough, Grover came home late and opened the door, the tower came tumbling down, and they both got in trouble.
When Grover Steadman and Donna got married, Dad was working in Trinidad and could not attend. I was 15 years old and was put under the watchful eye of Uncle Grover. The rehersal dinner was populated by recent Citadel graduates making outrageous toasts. I was having the time of my life and fully ready to continue the festivities into the night with my new found friends. When it was time to leave the Palmetto Club and continue the party elsewhere Uncle Grover told them that I was coming with him. They begged him to let them "educate" me in the ways of The Citadel but Uncle Grover told them that he promised James that he would look after me. My Citadel education would have to wait three more years.
God has blessed us with the life of Uncle Grover. He can be held up as a role model for all to follow. I will miss him but I am comforted in the knowledge that through his faith in Christ he now has life everlasting.
Peace from India,
Chuck

Mr. Grover Croft was by and away one of the finest gentlemen I have had the pleasure of working for and with during my 35 years with SCE&G Co. He set a standard of honesty, hard work and customer service which will be difficult for any of us to exceed. He was a true Southern Gentleman.
Sincerely,
Richard W. (Rick) Thomas, Jr., PE
