Gordon "Corky" Winter BIRMINGHAM, AL - On Sunday, January 17, 2021, Gordon "Corky" Winter passed away in Birmingham, Alabama at the age of 67. He was born on September 28, 1953 in Columbia, South Carolina to Gordon and Betty (Combs) Winter. Corky grew up in Summerville, South Carolina. He excelled at auto body painting and repair. He used this talent for many personal and professional endeavors, including being part of a team for local NASCAR sanctioned stock car racing. He loved to play the drums, which started from a young age at R.B. Stall High School to church and many more groups through the years. Corky also enjoyed fishing. Corky was known for his quick wit and infectious personality; he never met a stranger. Corky was preceded in death by this father, Gordon "Jr" Winter, and his mother, Betty Lou Combs Winter. He is survived by his wife, Carroll, as well as his four children with ex-wife, Linda Winter, Lisa (Marc) Stroble, Karen (Wynn) Boggs, Joseph (Kassi) Winter and Matt (Stephanie) Winter. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Tyler and Colin Stroble, Lauryn and Taylor Watkins, and Adyson Winter. He is also survived by his siblings, Shannon, Janet Winter, Lisa (Kim) Epps, and Glenn Winter, as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews. Due to the current pandemic, a memorial gathering will be delayed until it is safe for family and friends to gather to celebrate his life. Details will be shared via friends/family/social media.
