Gloria Rodgers Obituary

Gloria Amsler Rodgers CHARLESTON - Gloria Amsler Rodgers, 85, of Charleston, SC, beloved wife of the late James "Jim" Alonzo Rodgers, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, August 6, 2024. Her Funeral Service will be held at the graveside on Monday, August 12, 2024, in Live Oak Memorial Gardens, at 12:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception immediately following the service at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway. Gloria was born October 28, 1938 in Columbia, SC, a daughter of the late Wyman B. Phillips and the late Pauline Lavender Phillips. She and her brother, the late Wyman Phillips Amsler, were adopted by the late Lt. Donald Amsler after their mother remarried following their father's death. Gloria was a model wife, mother and grandmother who delighted in caring for her family. She never missed a sporting event, band concert, dance recital or school event. She was active in the school PTA, Girl Scouts and band parents' association. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing her piano and sharing her beautiful soprano voice. She was a member of Charleston Baptist Church and the women's Sunday School class. Additionally, she taught four-year-old kindergarten for eight years. She loved animals, especially her cats. She and Jim loved to travel with friends and enjoyed many cruises and vacations together. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon L Rodgers, Brenda R. Espey (Stewart), Suzzanne R. McQueen, and Kimberly R. Smith (Sam) and her son, James A. Rodgers, Jr. (Stacy); her seven grandchildren, Eric Espey, Frampton Toole IV, Meredith Espey Kaufman (Kyle), Rachel Espey Weber (Steven), Madalyn Smith Fish (Andrew), Shelby Ann Rodgers and Annaclair Turner Rodgers; and eight great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff at Oaks of Charleston and Agape Hospice for their care over the last two years. Sharon, I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom's passing. She was a wonderful, loving person.
I remember her fondly with our sleepovers and getting together on Saturday afternoons when we were in high school.
