Gloria Gearhart Obituary

Gloria Davis Gearhart CHARLESTON - Gloria Davis Gearhart (Oma), 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on February 3rd. Gloria was full of life and love and fought a short battle with cancer that ended quickly and without pain. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, John Gearhart; daughter, Tanya Nelson Gurrieri and son-in-law, Rich; son, Benny Nelson; grandchildren, Hannah, Logan, Gracen & Keleigh Legare Nelson, Isabella & Bennett Gurrieri; and her "pick up" family, James, Judy, Reina, Arthur & Mathew Daugomah; brothers, Bobby Davis and Jimmy Davis; and a sister, Delores Davis; step-children, Brett, Beth & Sean (Kim) Gearhart. She was predeceased by a daughter, Kelly; her parents; and brother, Philip. She leaves behind many friends and extended family members whom she loved dearly. Gloria's zest for life and spirited nature are how she will be remembered. She lived life fully and had no regrets. Her work at Phillips shoes for almost 20 years kept her going and in touch with the community of people she loved. Gloria's fire and spirit taught us all to fiercely protect and take care of the ones you love, tell it like it is, take no bull and to always be strong. She grew up outside of Charlotte with a childhood most of us couldn't imagine, but found mentors in school and elsewhere to give her a foundation of love that she would then pass on to her family. She'd say to us all, "Don't worry about me, quit that crying and get back to work". Arrangements for a celebration of Gloria's life will follow. I will always remember Gloria as a fierce, outspoken woman. But, beneath the tough exterior, Gloria had a heart of gold. She especially loved her grandchildren and truly cared for her many loyal customers. I loved talking with her and hearing that wonderful laugh when I would see her at Phillips Shoes. She is greatly missed.
RIP, Gloria

I was shocked when I learned of Gloria's passing. She was such a wonderful person - so outspoken, full of joy, and a pleasure to be around. Some days (even if I were not shopping) when I felt down, I would visit Gloria at Phillip's Shoes in S. Windermere, and always leave feeling so much better after talking and laughing with her. I am so very sorry for your loss.

I am sorry I did not know how sick she was. This obituary in the paper was all I would have said. Oma was so genuine, which I had the most respect for. She worshiped her family and gave with heart and soul. She make us laugh and cry all at the same time. Gloria, I will look you up when I get there. My prayers go out to Benny, Tanya, all the grands. and all the people that had the luck of knowing her and loving her! The world has lost one of the Best people I ever had the pleasure to know and laugh with, but God has another Angel. Love Alice Dudderar

I knew Gloria through the Daugamah family. She was always kind and welcoming to me. She was their OMA. And treated them like her own family. She will be missed.

John and family, So sorry and sad to hear about Gloria. She was always so happy and genuinely glad to see you. Always a smile. She so affectionately referred to me as "little" Ann. It always made me smile as so few ever call me that anymore. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Thoughts and Prayers.
