Salvador O. Castaneda

Salvador O. Castaneda, 73, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Per his wishes cremation rites will be accorded. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Salvador was born on March 22, 1947 in Ocotlan De Morelos, Oaxaca, the son of Salvador Castaneda Valencia and Manuela Dolores Hernandez Rios. He married Ametra Carrol on February 26, 2012 in Rock Island. Salvador worked as a custodian for Augustana College and Second Baptist Church, Rock Island, and previously at Palmer Chiropractic College, Davenport. He was an outstanding musician and loved playing the guitar and singing with his friends in the group "Colors." Salvador enjoyed running. He will be remembered as a kind hearted man who helped everybody he could. Salvador became a mentor and a friend to many students at Augustana by helping them learn life lessons, how to sing, clean, and play the guitar.
Salvador is survived by his wife, Ametra Carrol-Castaneda; children, Salvador (Jessica) Castaneda, Oscar Castaneda, and Ana Linda Mejia; step-daughter, Kometa L. Carrol; 13 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; siblings, Maria Luisa Castaneda, Vicente Castaneda Hernandez, Yolanda Donaji Castaneda Hernandez, Leonardo Castaneda Hernandez, Cecilia Soledad Reyes Hernandez, Juan Manuel Reyes Hernandez, and Maria "Zenaida" Dolores Reyes Hernandez; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Arturo Castaneda Hernandez and Manuel De Jesus Reyes Hernandez; and children's mothers, Maria Herlinda Hortencia Castaneda.
