Glenn Baker Obituary

Glenn H. Baker FLORENCE - Glenn H. Baker of Florence, SC, passed away on December 29, 2010, at The McLeod Hospice House in Florence. He was born April 3rd, 1923, the son of Benjamin C. and Wilma P. Baker in Cades, SC. He attended Hebron School and Clemson University. He was in the insurance business most of his adult life and retired from Loyal American Life Insurance Company in West Virginia before moving to Florence in 1999. Mr. Baker is survived by his daughter Glenda Taylor of Pawley's Island; two sons, John and Anne Baker of Vienna, WV, and Charles and Valerie Baker of Beckley, WV; grandchildren, Olivia Taylor of New York City and Carey and Charles Baker, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio; and a very special companion, Edna McNeill, of Florence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jimmie Owens Baker; brothers, Philip, Carl, and James; and his sister Evelyn Epps. Glenn and his family lived in Andrews, Greeneville and Anderson before moving to Johnson City, Tennessee and then to Parkersburg, West Virginia in 1974. While in Parkersburg, he enjoyed gardening at his Dutch Ridge home almost as much as visits from his grandchildren. He was a volunteer at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital. In Florence, he attended Pisgah Methodist and volunteered at the McLeod Hospice House. Graveside funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, January 1, 2011, in Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice House, P. O. Box 100551, Florence, SC 29502, or to the Hebron United Methodist Church, 2273 Hebron Rd., Cades, SC 29518.
