Gladys Conlay Obituary

Conlay, Gladys Lorraine "Rainy" 11/2/1932 - 10/22/2016 Saginaw, Michigan Loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016. Age 83 years. Rainy was born on November 2, 1932 to the late Elmer and Mary (Clark) Thompson. She graduated from Saginaw High in 1950. Her working career started at Borden's Dairy, where she would meet many of her lifelong friends. Rainy married Robert Conlay on September 9, 1966. He predeceased her on October 22, 1973. Since Bob was Rainy's one true love, she would never marry again. Instead, she focused on being a wonderful mother, who in later years would go on to earn an Associate's Degree from Saginaw Business Institute. This launched her career as a secretary at the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Hospital. A person of profound faith, Rainy was a lifelong member of Sheridan Avenue United Methodist Church until its closure when she joined the First United Methodist Church in Saginaw Township. A passionate sports fan, Rainy cheered for all teams from her home state. Besides following sports, her other hobbies included playing Euchre, working jigsaw puzzles, baking delicious Christmas cookies for family and friends, and in her younger days, bowling. Most recently she loved to spend time with her two granddaughters. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Michael (Melissa) Conlay, Saginaw; her step-son, Robert (Linda) Conlay, Saginaw; her two granddaughters, Paige and Madeline, Saginaw; her brother, Elmer Thompson, Saginaw; her brother-in-law, Dr. Paul Getty, Sebring, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, Rainy was predeceased by her in-laws, Denzel and Inez Conlay; her sisters, Marilyn Wartenberg and Betty Getty; her sisters-in-law, Bay Moeller and Grace Thompson; brothers-in-law, Norman Wartenburg and Leonard Moeller; her nieces Mary Lou Getty and Marty Wartenburg. Following Rainy's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2016 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). Pastor Amy Terhune will officiate. Private interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery with her husband, Bob. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to First United Methodist Church of Saginaw Township or a charity of their choice.
