Gilbert Young Obituary

YOUNG, DR., Gilbert Gilbert Flowers Young, MD of 1057 South Shem Drive, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina died at his home on January 9, 2006. Dr. Young was a Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina. He retired in 1986. Dr. Young was born September 23, 1922, a son of Gilbert F. Young, Sr. and Mattie Lee Thomas Young. He received his education and training at the College of Charleston, the University of North Carolina, the Medical University of South Carolina, the Medical College of Virginia Hospital, Roper Hospital, the children's Hospital of Columbus, Ohio and the Massachusetts General Hospital. He served as a medical officer in the United States Air Force in Florida, Texas, and Greenland during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Fraser Young of Mt. Pleasant, his daughter: Elizabeth O'Hear Young of Mt. Pleasant and sister, Elizabeth Young Newsom of the Isle of Palms. He was predeceased by two brothers, William Thomas Young of Columbia and Walter Lee Young, MD of Hampton There will be no public memorial service. The family will arrange a private memorial in his honor at a later date. Memorials contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by JAMES A. McALISTER, INC. 766-1365. My friendship with Dr. Young will always be cherished. I will always respect his knowledge and kindness. I miss him greatly.

"..... Everything I have ever done in neurology that has impressed anyone else, I learned from him. He was the best child neurologist I ever saw and my friend."



This is a portion of an email I received from a physician I once worked with informing us of Dr. Young's death. I did not know Dr. Young, but I do know the results of his work. I am sorry for your loss.
