Gertrude Misenheimer Obituary

Gertrude Esther Misenheimer HANAHAN - Gertrude Esther Misenheimer, 92, beloved wife of Leo J. Misenheimer of Hanahan, SC died Thursday, December 10, 2009. She was born in Salisbury, NC on October 17, 1917, to the late Chalmers Gideon Frick and Mary Christina Eagle Frick. She and Leo met in the fifth grade, and last April celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. They raised their three children primarily in Alexandria, VA, before retiring to Myrtle Beach, and then later to Hanahan. During WWII she worked at International Harvester in Chicago counting war bonds, and then became a dedicated homemaker. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She was a very compassionate person and listened to others with her heart. She endured great adversity during her childhood and youth but was a devout Christian and always remained strong in her faith. Until late in life she was very active in her church and taught Sunday school for over 30 years. After studying floral design in Washington, DC she worked part time in a florist and was paid in flowers which she arranged and donated to the church each Sunday for 15 years. She was most recently a member of North Charleston Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Leo J. Misenheimer and their children; son, Leo Gary Misenheimer and his wife Aletha of Spartanburg, son, Stephen Timothy Misenheimer and his wife Carolyn of Richmond, VA; and daughter Mary Christina Sweatman and her husband Sonny of Hanahan; grandchildren: Jeromie, Brent, Brock and Ashley Misenheimer, Jason, Brent and Jamie Sweatman; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Nelle Thompson of Lakeland, FL and predeceased in death by brothers, Harvey, Fred and Norman; and sisters, Lib, Mamie and Pearle. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service, on Saturday, December 19, 2009, at 3:00 p.m., in North Charleston United Methodist Church, 1125 East Montague Avenue. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Charleston Foundation, 676 Wando Park Boulevard, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.
