Gertrude Kennedy Obituary

Gertrude Kennedy Charleston - Gertrude Lillith Von Glahn Kennedy, 95, widow of Thomas W. Kennedy, Sr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. The relatives and friends of Gertrude V. Kennedy are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Wednesday evening, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Online condolences may be made at www.CharlestonFunerals.com. Gertrude was born December 19, 1921, in Charleston, to Louis William and Louise Milligan Von Glahn. She graduated from Memminger Elementary and Murray Vocational High School, and was married to the late Thomas W. Kennedy, Sr. for 54 years prior to his passing on May 19, 1995. Gertrude was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a member of the Pilot Club of Charleston. She was a homemaker and a devoted mother and grandmother who filled her home with love and laughter and always had a delicious meal ready on the table. She was loved dearly by all and will be greatly missed. She is survived by four children: Thomas W. Kennedy, Jr. (Renee), Michael B. Kennedy (Debbie), Rosemary K. Cochran (Jim), and Gerald F. Kennedy; ten grandchildren: Tommy, Tammy, Natalie, Robert, Laurie, Heather, Danielle, Michael, Haley, and Corey and six great-grandchildren. Gertrude was predeceased by her son, Ronald L. Kennedy and her daughter, Barbara K. Netting. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Dr., Charleston, SC 29407. Arrangements by JAMES A. Robert and family,

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. Robert--your grandmother always treated me like one of her own and I always felt her love. Aunt Gertie was a very special lady. She was so sweet and loving. I have many fond memories of her. She will be missed! She lived a long, full life. Although she will be deeply missed, I hope all of her family and friends will find comfort in all of their wonderful memories of moments spent with her over the years.
