Gertrude Farmer Obituary

FARMER , Gertrude V.
Passed away on February 23,2007, at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living in Northridge, CA. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island on March 28, 1923, and grew up in Chicago. For more than 40 years she was a resident of Granada Hills, CA. At the time of her death she had been living at Brighton Gardens for almost 5 years. Mrs. Farmer had worked for the L.A. Unified School District for more than 25 years upon her retirement in 1995. During the last 20 years of her teaching career she worked at Porter Junior High as a certified Teacher's Aide with Learning Disabled students. Prior to that, she enjoyed a 20-year career at Columbia Pictures, working in the Property Department during the "Golden Age" of motion pictures.
She was an accomplished pianist, teaching private students for much of her life, and was also a piano instructor and scholarship winner at the L.A. Conservatory of Music in the 1940's.
In retirement, Mrs. Farmer enjoyed travel, doll-house making, and the company of her granddaughters. Her husband of 50 years, Vernon, passed away in 1998 at the age of 78.
Mrs. Farmer is survived by her three sons and their families, her son Richard, his wife Patty, granddaughter Jenny; son Bob, his wife Mary, granddaughter Rachel; and son Ron and his wife Lisa.
A rosary will be held on Friday, March 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at Utter McKinley San Fernando Mission Mortuary , 11071 Columbus Ave. in Mission Hills. The funeral mass will be at 12p.m. on March 3rd at St. John Baptist de la Salle Catholic Church, 16555 Chatsworth St. Granada Hills, followed by a graveside service at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, 11160 Stranwood Ave. in Mission Hills.
