Geraldine Harrelson Obituary

Geraldine Ott Harrelson Charleston - Anne Geraldine "Gerry" Ott Harrelson, 89, of Charleston, SC, joined her husband in eternal happiness on April 27, 2021. A Graveside Funeral Service will take place 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Rd., Charleston, SC 29414. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel. Gerry was born on September 24, 1931, to Jeff and Frieda Ott, who preceded her in death. Gerry attended Mars Hill College, majoring in music. She taught piano and organ at her home and joyfully played the organ for more than 65 years at several area churches, including; Pinecrest Baptist Church, James Island Baptist Church, Northbridge Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of North Charleston. She enjoyed fellowship and playing the piano for the senior ministry at Ashley River Baptist and periodically played piano for senior choirs and at other events in area churches. Over the years, Gerry also worked at Oak Grove Orphanage, Goodwin Elementary School, and taught church Kindergarten. Gerry was previously involved with The Mended Hearts, Inc., Charleston Chapter #266 at Roper Hospital. She served for many years as the National Internet Visiting Chairperson for The Mended Hearts, Inc., assisting others throughout the country with visitation information for heart patients and their families. Gerry enjoyed her family, especially hosting family dinners and trips where everyone could be together. She cooked, sewed, and knitted/crocheted for special occasions over the years. Gerry especially liked working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She and her husband, Jack, enjoyed vacationing with a special group of friends that included camping as a "club" in the Georgia mountains. Gerry's family and friends were important to her and she rarely turned down an opportunity to go and do. She was the ultimate "Energizer Bunny"! Gerry was happily married to Jack C. Harrelson, Sr. for 62 years. She is survived by her daughters, Sheryl Hartwell (Chad) and Rebecca Coulter (Richard); son, Jack C. Harrelson, Jr. (Leslie); sisters, Ouida Ott and Stacer McGee; and brother-in-law, Frank E. Harrelson (Sandy). She was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Randall Hartwell (Marie), Jennifer Sommers (Jason), Maggie Dangerfield (James), David Coulter, and Macey Coulter; 5 great-grandchildren, Riley Hartwell, Jackson Hartwell, Tessler Hoffman, Allie Dangerfield, and Rush Dangerfield; several nieces; and a nephew. The family acknowledges and appreciates the care of Mom/Grandma by Charleston Oncology West Ashley, Coastal Cardiology, Charleston ENT, West Ashley Primary Care, the staff at Benton House of West Ashley, and the wonderful nurses/doctors at Roper Hospital and Roper St. Francis ER. Help us remember Gerry by doing a special kindness for another, or by donating time/money to the National Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, The Mended Hearts, Inc., or your favorite charity. You should know that I worked with your dad, Jack, for a number of years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was a wonderful man, and it was a pleasure meet precious Gerry and stay in touch with her. My late husband, Bob, and I met them for lunch in Cleveland one day when they were staying somewhere north of there, as they loved to do. One of you girls brought them, I can't remember which one, and Bob and I enjoyed visiting with all of you. That was the last time I saw your dad. I saw your mother a time of two when we had our Data Processing get-togethers at Aldersgate United Metodist Church. I will never forget Jack and Gerry, two of the loveliest people I've ever known. I am so sad of hearing of her passing. I was going to email her when she got settled at her new residence. I'm sorry I didn't get to.

Praying God's sweet Holy Spirit will fill and surround all of you with Love and Peace. Sincerely, Terry Stone
