Georgie Reilly Obituary

REILLY, Georgie Georgie Mae Oliver Reilly, 87, of Charleston, SC, formerly of Sullivans Island, entered into eternal rest on April 15, 2006. Georgie is the widow of William F. (Billy) Reilly, Sr. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of The Nativity, James Island, Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at ten o'clock. The Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL this (Monday) afternoon between five and seven o'clock. There will be a Christian Wake Service at six o'clock. Mrs. Reilly was born March 23, 1919, in Charleston, SC, the daughter of the late Walter Burton Oliver and Lula Iona Singletary Oliver. She graduated from Memminger High School and married William F. Reilly on April 1, 1938. While she and Billy raised their family, Georgie was a visionary force in the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of North Charleston for 30 years where many of her pioneering initiatives and playgrounds still thrive today. Georgie, or "Nana" as many knew her, was devoted to her family, community, and church. Following the death of her husband, Georgie resided in Illinois and Texas with her children. On her return to Charleston, she was an active member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Summerville. She is survived by her two children, Colonel William F. (Billie) Reilly, Jr., US Army (Ret.) presently residing in Kabul, Afghanistan and Rosemary Oliver Reilly Keikow of Summerville; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved siblings, Walter Burton Oliver, Jr., Anthony Calvin Oliver, Caroline Louise Oliver Seyle, Katherine Elizabeth Oliver Goldstein, Lula Althea Oliver Lassiter, and Frances Ida Oliver Hoagland. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Hospice of Charleston, 3870 Leeds Avenue, Suite 101, North Charleston, SC 29405 or to Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633. A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com. Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.

Billy and Rosie, I was truly saddened to hear the news of Georgie's passing. She was a wonderful lady and I have many fond memories of my teenage days hanging out at your home. She will be in my prayers, as will both of you.

I remember Georgie from helping with the swimming meets at the Danny Jones Pool. What a delight your mother was! She and your dad were friends of my husband, Capers parents. (Carlton and Hazel Poulnot Sullivan's Island, SC) Rosie, we had met at patterning therapy sessions about 25-30 years ago. Thinking of you at this difficult time.

Rosie & Billy, I just learned of your Mother's death and I am so sorry. She was such a wonderful, great lady and I have such fond memories of her. Her work with the "special" children of the world provided so much love and understanding. I know there is a special place in Heaven just for her. Much love, Jeuley
