George White Obituary

George Michael White N. Charleston - George Michael White, 86, of North Charleston, SC, husband of Doris Comrie Dann White entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 27, 2018. The Mass of Christian burial will be held at a future date to be announced. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston, SC. George was born December 13, 1932 in Flushing, NY, the youngest of eight children of the late Richard White and Charlotte Fitzgerald White. George proudly served his country during the Korean War and used the GI bill to graduate from NYU. He then went on to marry the love of his life, Doris, in 1955. In 1986 George and Doris moved from Long Island, NY to Charleston, SC where George opened the Arm Chair Sailor Maritime Center. He earned his Coast Guard License to be a Charter Boat Captain. This allowed him to enjoy the beautiful waters from Charleston to the Bahamas. In 1996 George retired and closed the shop so that he and Doris could enjoy RVing and dancing. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris; two sisters, Mary Clare Rose and Frances Morey; three sons: George White Jr., Stephen White (Tish), Gregory White (Martha); two daughters, Claire Horowitz (Ralph) and Dianna White (Darren); grandchildren: Gregory, David, Alden, Josephine, Shayna and Johnathan; and two great-grandchildren, Blair and Quinn. Memorials may be made to Divine Redeemer Catholic Church Building Fund, 1106 Fort Drive, Hanahan, SC 29410. Doris and family, dinner I have many fond memories of visits to the Greenlawn house as a child and as a young adult after my Dad passed and we moved to Huntington. He was always entertaining at the family parties with that White sense of humor . Most recently I enjoyed playing words with friends with him on Facebook, it was a nice way to keep in touch. I had heard of his diagnosis but also didn't think he would pass so quickly. Sending love and prayers to you Doris, George,Steve, Greg , Claire and Dianna, and all your families. Uncle George was a wonderful sweet man. He will be missed by all.❤ Rest In Peace Uncle George ❤❤

I remember him fondly from my childhood as the fun Uncle and the family time we shared - sending much love to Aunt Doris and all the cousins and their families for joy in his memory and peace in your hearts Blessings to his spirit may he rest in peace , with love Doreen

Doris,George,Steven,Greg,CClaire & Dianna (& families)
I was so sad to hear that Uncle George entered eternity. He had sent me an email telling me of his diagnosis, but I didnt suspect he'd be gone so quickly. I still tell people about your very cool, mid-century modern home in Greenlawn. I can't go through late July and talk of the moon landing without remembering with fondness, crowding around your TV to watch it that Saturday night so many years ago. And I will never forget that it was your family who helped us, in so many way, after mom was struggling to keep it all together as a single mother.
And in these later years I enjoyed occasional emails trying to persuade us to also move to Charleston . I had hoped to get there for a visit before this.
I'm praying that your memories, and the hope of heaven will lighten your hearts as you grieve. Uncle George was one of the good guys and he will be missed. But I know I'll see him again.

Uncle George was a wonderful uncle and a wonderful Godfather. I was fortunate to see him frequently when I moved to Seattle as he and Doris would make annual trips to the Pacific Northwest to see Claire and Dianna. They always made time to stop and visit and we always enjoyed their company. My favorite visit was George and Doris' 50th Anniversary cruise to Alaska on which all of their kids and grandkids went. So we got to see all of the George White clan that year which was awesome. Kip came too. I was looking for photos of that visit but can't find them. I also have many fond memories as a kid attending Easter brunches at George and Doris' house on Long Island, summer visits to our Sand Creek house in upstate NY, and many family parties where he was present. We all grieve George's passing but special condolences to Doris, George Jr, Steve, Greg, Claire, Dianna, Fran and Mary Claire. Rest in peace Uncle George and enjoy the welcome party that I am sure is being thrown for you in heaven. I know lots of relations are so happy to see you. Love to you and all of them and I will see you on the other side.
