George Rast Obituary

RAST, George BOWMAN, SC - George T. Rast, 81, 3912 Charleston Highway, Bowman, SC, April 26, 2005, died Tuesday night at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Friday, April 29, 2005, at First Baptist Church of Bowman. Rev. Frank Hay, Rev. Roger Griffin, and Rev. Collen Rast, Jr., will officiate. Burial in Bowman Memorial Cemetery. THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., in Orangeburg, is in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Taylor, Stephen Taylor, Trey Atkinson, Bryan Shuler, Mitch Jackson, Mikie Smoak, Johnathan Bennett, and Nick Fox. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church of Bowman and The Gideons. He was born July 15, 1923, in Bowman, SC. He was the son of the late William C. Rast and the Laurie Cook Rast. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bowman. He was a Sunday School Superintendent for many years and a Deacon for 60 years. He was presently the Sunday School Secretary and a member of the Gideon International. He was retired from Federal Crop Insurance as an adjuster and he was a farmer and an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Florrie Ann Rast; one brother, Cullen Rast; two sisters, Nell Bair and Maggie Lee Bair. Survivors include his wife, Florrie Ann Rast of the residence; three daughters, Mrs. L. B. (Gayle) Taylor of Dorchester, SC; Mrs. Sandy (Beverly) Atkinson, Mrs. Al (Jeannine) Shuler both of Orangeburg; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Grace Tyler of Orangeburg, and Rosemary Wolfe of Cross. Friends may call at the residence, 3912 Charleston Highway, Bowman, and at the funeral home. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., in Orangeburg.
