George Meyer Obituary

G. W. Meyer, Jr. "Buddy" HOLLY HILL - Mr. George W. "Buddy" Meyer, Jr., 74, of Holly Hill, died Monday, March 15, 2010 in a Charleston hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Locke and Rev. Earl Behr officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nicholas Meyer, Christopher Meyer, Jeffery Meyer, Jr., David Sexton, Will West, Rodney West, and Dylan Meyer. Mr. Meyer was born in Manning, SC, a son of the late George W. Meyer, Sr. and Wilhelmenia Cochran Meyer. He grew up on John's Island and was a 1954 graduate of St. John's High School. Moving to Holly Hill that same year, he became owner/operator first of Meyer's Shell Station then Buddy's Exxon. From 1986 until 2008, he was owner of Buddy's Brooms, distributor of janitorial supplies. Buddy loved his Lord. Confirmed at St. John's Episcopal Church at age 13, he later joined First Baptist Church, Holly Hill, serving as deacon there, and in 1986 became a member of Corinth Baptist Church where he was a deacon and chairman of ushers and was active in Sunday School. He deeply loved Holly Hill and its people. He was a town councilman for 12 years, mayor for 4 years and had also served as a volunteer fireman. Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Catherine Meyer. Surviving are his wife, Mary "Mimi" Tindal Meyer of Holly Hill; a daughter, Lisa (Rodney) West of Summerville; sons, George W. "Wally" (Kathy) Meyer, III of St. Mary's GA, Jeffery V. "Jeff" (Kim) Meyer and William Anton "Tony" Meyer, both of Eutawville; a sister, Antonette M. (Bob) Jennings of Holly Hill; step-children, Mary (Andy) Hart of Gainesville, FL, Julia (Brian) Warwick of Palatka, FL, Robert Hart of Florence, AL, and Tindal (Lori) Hart of Charleston; 18 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Avinger Funeral Home, and other times at the Meyer home and the home of Bob and Antonette Jennings.
