McDOWELL, George REIDSVILLE - Reverend George Murray McDowell, 71, of 1086 Wagon Wheel Road, died on Friday, March 31, 2006 at WakeMed in Raleigh. The family will receive local friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Sunday, April 2 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.. following the visitation at the Wilkerson Chapel. The family will also receive family and friends in Dillon, SC on Monday, April 3 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the Cooper Funeral Home and a graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Southern Methodist Church Cemetery in Oak Grove, SC with Masonic graveside rites. Rev. McDowell was born in the Oak Grove Community in Marlboro County, SC to the late Boyd and Rhoda McDowell. He was currently the pastor of Christway Baptist Church in Eden, NC and served many other churches during his pastoral career of 40 plus years in North and South Carolina. Rev. McDowell also retired as a rural letter carrier with the US Postal Service in Reidsville with over 25 years of service. Other than his parents he was also preceded in death by his brothers Virgil, Alex, and Sam McDowell. He is survived by two daughters, one son and their spouses, Rev. Billy and Patricia Hundley of Raleigh, NC, Mr. David and Jeannie Moore of Raleigh, NC, and Rev. Mac and Amy McDowell of Reidsville, NC; grandchildren, Chandler, Riley, Connor, Leah Paige, Keaton, Carson, Madeline, Kendall, and George, IV; brother, Mr. Donald and Elene McDowell of Tennille, GA, and sister-in-law, Annie Ruth McDowell of Goose Creek, SC and many nieces and nephews.
