George Leber Obituary

George Wright Leber MT. PLEASANT - George Wright Leber, 90, passed away August 24, 2023, while in Hospice care at The Oaks at Mt. Pleasant. Born on July 12, 1933, in Cleveland, OH, son of the late Andrew and Madeline Leber. George was also preceded in death by his sister, Jane Ann Hendrickson (William) and step-mother, Florence Leber. George is survived by his wife, Margaret (Marge) Johnson Leber of 63 years; two daughters, Linda (Joe) Vizcarrondo and Deanna (Mark) Fanning; grandchildren, Joey Vizcarrondo, Liana (Nate) Geroche and Avery and Todd Fanning; along with his nieces and nephews. George earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toledo, OH, and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. George retired from Owens-Illinois Plastics Division after 28 years. He and Marge moved to Hartville, SC, where he joined Sonoco Products for 12 years. He and Marge then retired to Mt. Pleasant, where he volunteered at the Franke Home in the Maintenance Department for 13 years. George also loved sailing and was a member of the Charleston Model Yacht Club. He enjoyed fishing and ran 5 marathons before retiring to Mt. Pleasant. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 14, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Mount Pleasant located at 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC. The Vigil Wake will be conducted at 6:00 pm at the visitation. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 11:00 am at Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle St., Sullivan's Island, SC. The private interment will be held at St. Benedict Catholic Church Columbarium, Mount Pleasant, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stella Maris Building Fund or the St. Vincent de Paul Society c/o Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle St., P.O.
