George Kimble Horn III

George Horn Obituary

George Kimble Horn, III CHARLESTON - Captain George Kimble "Kim" Horn III, 81, passed peacefully on April 17, 2019. He is survived by his two daughters, Valerie Kroesen (Steve) and Tracey Erwin, four granddaughters, Tyler and Grayson Bainbridge, Olivia Erwin, and Ashlinn Kroesen and his former wife Gail Horn. Preceded in death by his brother Maurice Darnell Horn, he is survived by his sister Suzanne Duckworth. Born on May 4, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Baltimore, MD, he graduated from City College High School in 1955. He took pride in being part of the United States Marine Corps (1956 to 1958) and continued his dedication as a volunteer at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC. A former member of the Towson Jaycees, he served as president from 1968-1969. Upon discharge from the Marines, he was an insurance adjuster followed by establishing a fire restoration company which he ran until moving to Charleston. His love for the Chesapeake Bay inspired him to become a charter boat captain, instilling his love for fishing and crabbing in his family. He could captivate an audience by making a 30 second joke last for 20 minutes. He gave his family a life-long appreciation for many things: good books, bluegrass music, tomato sandwiches, showing pride in your country, singing karaoke, and keeping a sense of humor in life no matter the circumstances. All who knew him loved him! A private remembrance and celebration will be held onboard his beloved Pirate Lady with family on May 18th, 2019. In lieu of flowers his request was for donations made to either Pet Helpers (www.pethelpers.org) or The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (https://www.cbf.org). Not sure what to say?

Once a Marine, Always a Marine.

Another Marine

April 30, 2019

Whenever I become aware that another Marine has answered his last muster, I am reminded by words in our Marines' Hymn that tells us, the streets of Heaven are guarded by United States Marines. Stack arms and rest your pack, Marine, and then take your post. You still have important work to do. Semper Fi, and carry on.

To Captain Rock.....you always made me laugh and smile. We have had such great times through the years in Maryland, the Eastern Shore, and Charleston. Such happy memories watching our families grow. But I know you are now fishing somewhere on the Bay and telling tall tales with your brother, your nephews, Mike and Chris, John Cockey and Bob Langenfelter. I can hear the laughter. Smooth seas, George. We love you dearly.

GEORGE, my spell correct on my iPhone capitalizes your name every time I write it. Not sure why...something tells me that you're still up to your funny business.
When I came to see you 2 weeks ago at the VA, I never expected that you would make me laugh so hard! I couldn't have asked for a better goodbye from you. Your stories & your absolute honesty about how you see people & life were just....brilliant. I wonder if you knew how funny you were.
We both had Cowboy kitties that meant the world to us, & I think when your Cowboy went away so did a big chunk of your heart (chunky, like Cowboy was), & you told me that. I hope that sassy boy is laying next to you now.
You brought a gazillion laughs to me & Jason, & you will always be loved & cherished & thank you for being a part of our lives.
