George Groves Obituary

George Francis Groves SUMMERVILLE - George Francis Groves, 90, of Summerville, South Carolina, husband of the late Helen D. Groves passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014. His Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2014 in the J. HENRY STUHR INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. Interment will be at a later date in Virgina. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. George was born December 10, 1923 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late George Francis Groves, Sr. and Lillian Gerard Groves. He was a Hotel Manager. A graduate of Bishop England High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served during WWII. George worked for many years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. After retiring from the Shipyard, he went into hotel management. He was member of St. John's Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Jaycees. He is survived by two sons, Stephen P. Groves, Sr. and his wife, Patricia L. Brame of Mount Pleasant, SC, and George Gerard Groves of Summerville, SC; his five grandchildren, Stephen P. Groves, Jr., Sumter S.H. Groves, George Gerard Groves, Jr., Adam P. Groves, and Gage M. Groves; his brother, William F. Groves and his wife, Patricia of Hanahan, SC. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Barbara Groves of North Charleston and Eleanor Groves of Charleston. George was preceded in death by his brothers, Alan L. Groves and John J. Groves.
