Floyd Colgan Obituary

NORTHFIELD - Floyd Clayton Colgan, 92, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at the Four Seasons Community Care Home in Northfield. He was born in Isle LaMotte Aug. 1, 1918, the son of Rufus and Minnie (Drown) Colgan. He is a graduate of Northfield High School, class of 1937.

Floyd is a veteran of the United States Army Air Force having served in World War II from Aug. 14, 1942, until Sergeant Colgan was honorably discharged Nov. 30, 1945.

He was a farmer his entire life, most of it on the family farm in West Brookfield. He tilled many gardens all over the area, worked on a chicken farm delivering eggs in Northfield and also ran a milk route for Randolph Creameries.

He enjoyed the 4-H in his youth, coin collecting and family genealogy.

Survivors include two siblings, "Jake" Ernest Colgan and his wife, Sandy of Barre, Norma Burnell of Northfield; a sister in-law, Anna Colgan of Roxbury; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by three siblings, Bernard Colgan, Leon "Red" Colgan and Barbara Sanders.

Calling hours will be held an hour before the service, from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 30, with the memorial service to commence at 11 a.m. at the Kingston Funeral Home, 35 Slate Ave., Northfield. Burial will take place in the family plot in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Northfield where military honors will be accorded later this spring. Donations may be made in his memory to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Berlin, VT 05641.

My condolances to the family during this difficult time. It was a pleasure to get to know Floyd and help provide care for him. He was loved to no end and will greatly be missed my many.
