George Demetrulias Sr.

George Angelo Demetrulias Sr., 87, of Cahokia, Ill., born Jan. 9, 1923, in Johnston City, Ill., died Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Demetrulias was a retired insurance agent for Wausau Insurance and he was a member of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Swansea, Ill. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Texas.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Angelo G. and Otillia, nee Hockholder, Demetrulias; a sister, Katherine Dillon; and a daughter-in-law, Dianne Demetrulias.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mary F., nee Donahue, Demetrulias; his children, George A. (Pamela) Demetrulias of Waterloo, Ill., Patty A. (Timothy) McElligott of Dupo, Ill., Georgia M. Lange of Dupo, Ill. Wayne C. (Marsha) Demetrulias of Dupo, Ill., Angelo G. (Lea Fingers) Demetrulias of Cahokia, Ill., and Timothy J. Demetrulias of Cahokia, Ill., a sister, Mary L. Crain of Godfrey, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Durant Blackman. He was a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Southern Illinois or to Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Swansea, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Braun Colonial Funeral Home in Cahokia, Ill. A Trisagion service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral: Funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 21, 2010, for a 9:30 a.m. service at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Swansea, Ill., with Father Achilles officiating. Burial in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.

I am comforted to know that you are with my Mother, your youngest sister Katherine, once again.
